The book is a debut novel that revolves around the lives of three women whose fates are intertwined by a letter, a mother's love, and a secret network of women fighting for the right to choose. The story starts in 2017, where Angela Creighton finds a letter containing a life-changing confession. Angela makes it her mission to deliver the letter to its intended recipient and begins to search for the owner. Her investigation leads her back to the 1970s, where a group of brave women ran an underground abortion network in Toronto called Jane.

Dr. Evelyn Taylor was a teenager in 1971 when she was sent to a home for "fallen" women and forced to give up her baby for adoption. The trauma of this experience never leaves her, and she is motivated to help other women have a choice in their reproductive health. She becomes an abortion provider and joins the Jane Network despite the risks of arrest and police raids.

In 1980, Nancy Mitchell is a twenty-year-old woman who discovers a shocking family secret. When she unexpectedly becomes pregnant, she feels alone and turns to the Jane Network for help. Nancy joins the network, and through her experience, she realizes that she can never escape the lies that have haunted her.

The novel is inspired by true stories of the Jane Network, a group of women who operated an underground abortion network in Toronto during the 1970s. The story explores themes of motherhood, choice, trauma, and the power of women coming together to fight for their rights.
