Thinking, Fast and Slow
The central idea of the book is a contrast between two ways of thinking: "System 1" is quick, instinctual, and emotive, whereas "System 2" is slower, more deliberate, and more rational. Starting with Kahneman's own study on loss aversion, the book outlines the rational and non-rational reasons or triggers connected with each type of thought process and how they support one another. The book synthesises decades of data to argue that people place too much trust in human judgement, from framing decisions to people's propensity to ask an easy question in place of a difficult one.
