Seeing Further The Story of Science, Discovery, and the Genius of the Royal Society
This exceptional anthology honouring the 350th anniversary of the Royal Society was edited and prefaced by Bill Bryson and features contributions by Richard Dawkins, Margaret Atwood, David Attenborough, Martin Rees, and Richard Fortey among others.
350 years ago, a group of about a dozen men gathered at London's Gresham College on a soggy weekday in November. Christopher Wren, who was just 28 years old and not particularly well-known, was delivering a lecture on astronomy. As they listened to him talk, his audience came to the conclusion that it would be a good idea to establish a society to encourage the gathering of beneficial knowledge.
