Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by Mary Anne Evans, who wrote under the pen name George Eliot. It was initially published in 1871 and 1872 in eight instalments (volumes). It is set in 1829 to 1832 in Middlemarch, a fictional English Midland town, and follows several tales with many individuals.   Women's rights, the nature of marriage, idealism, self-interest, religion, hypocrisy, political change, and education are among the topics discussed. Despite its comedic parts, Middlemarch employs realism to depict historical events like as the 1832 Reform Act, early railroads, and King William IV's ascension. It examines nineteenth-century medicine as well as conservative viewpoints in an established society confronting unpleasant change. Eliot began writing the novel's two parts in 1869–1870 and finished them in 1871. Although it received mixed reviews at first, it is now considered regarded as her greatest work and one of the great English novels.
